Buy yourself shoes

I’m not a crazy shoe guy. I wear them. You kinda have to. I used to not give a damn about the brand or anything like that until recently. I forget exactly what sparked this, but I got into converse shoes in the past two years. Well, as I wrote that sentence I was reminded of how I got into them. There was a Spider-Man comic called “unscheduled stop” where in it, he fights a villain named the Shocker in a subway train. The story starts with Peter Parker in his civilian clothes, but there’s a panel where his clothes rip, and he puts on his mask, and in that cool panel where he’s wearing half civilian clothes and half Spidey outfit, he’s wearing a pair of red Chuck Taylor converse.

Why the hell do I remember that? Well, because I adore Spider-Man. I always wanted to up my style game too, so I figured I’d give that a try. The first pair of converse I bought was a red pair, obviously. I liked them. I still have them. I never wore them a ton though, because I got them in the “wide foot” style, and they ended up being as big as clown shoes. Pretty funny. I still have the pair. I remember my girlfriend at the time kept talking about how she wanted to paint my pair of converse as a cute little date night activity. She had a pair of white converse too. We didn’t last long enough to do that though, and that’s alright.

After the pair of reds, I bought a pair of black. I figured black converse go with everything. And wow, did they go with everything. I wore the hell out of that shoe. It was my main shoe. I still have them. I’ve taken them on hikes, fishing trips, nights out, lectures, I can’t even count. They are so battered up though, they got a whole ass hole in them. Kinda sucks since I really loved them. I rarely wear them now, only if I’m going out to party in a dirty bar or place like that. I then got a pair or maroon Chucks, which became my new go to. I was inspired by one of my friends, Kristina, who had a pair of them and I really liked the color. Shoutout to her.

Why the hell am I talking about shoes? Well, in the past couple months, it’s been a bit rough for me. It used to be really rough, and I’ve done a lot of healing and improving since, so now it’s not as bad. But when it was really rough, I bought myself a pair of brand new black Chuck 70 converse. The Chuck 70s are slightly more expensive but have a higher quality fabric, materials, and are more durable. I love the black converse look and I wanted to wear my old ones again, but I didn’t want to worry about stepping into puddles. I’m wearing these Chucks now as I write this. They’re nice. I need to break them in still, the heels are digging into my skin, but they’re stylish as hell and they’re cozy.

This whole thing is not sponsored by the way. Converse please sponsor me, I would wear converse everyday if you guys do!!! But I’m saying all this because I want to hammer home the point that when things are tough, it pays to treat yourself. I’m not saying indulge. When I’m having a rough day, I find what makes that day easier is when I do the things I know I should do, instead of the things I want to do. What I mean is, when I wake up on the wrong side of the bed and I don’t feel like going to the gym, or eating healthily, or going to work, I do all I can to push through that. When I do, I feel even better.

When the going gets tough, the tough get going. I heard that somewhere and I honestly don’t know what it means. Does it mean the tough get going, as in they give up, or they get going with the tough? What I mean is, yeah, sometimes you’re gonna have to push through a shitty day. It’s called being human. But what you can do to make it better, to make it easier, is doing the hard stuff. When you accomplish things that are challenging, it makes you feel so much better. Give it a try. Go to the gym. Journal. Go for a walk. Talk to that person you wanna talk to. Challenge yourself. And when you’re done, treat yourself with something. It could be a dessert, it could be a movie night, or it could be a new pair of sneakers.
